Family Numeracy Night is coming! We hope that you will be joining us next Wednesday, October 1st from 6:30-8:00 p.m. for a night of information, engagement, and fun. Parents will have the opportunity to choose two informational sessions to attend while their children participate in enrichment activities and read-alouds connected to mathematics. This year's informational sessions will address a variety of topics, such as supporting students at home, defining rigor in mathematics, understanding the components of fact-fluency, strategy-building through Number Talks, and discovering the world of KenKen. The night will conclude with students and parents having the opportunity to participate together in grade-level math games, KenKen, and enrichment activities. So far, over 25 families have registered to attend, and we would love for that number to grow. If you have not yet turned in your response form, please download the flyer above, and return it by Friday, September 26th. We hope to see you there.
As we enter the 3rd week of school, it is apparent that students and staff have settled into the routines and expectations that a new year brings. JMS teachers have created environments and established norms that are allowing students to engage in mathematical learning in a variety of ways.

Welcome back, JMS Families!
I have enjoyed receiving postcards from your children and our staff throughout the summer highlighting encounters with mathematics. This has been an authentic way to show how we all use math in our daily lives. I hope that you will have the opportunity to view them in our school entryway. Many of our students have also been excited to show me their work on their summer math packets. Your children's teachers and I appreciate your efforts in helping your children maintain their skills in mathematics. If your children have not yet brought in a summer postcard or math packet, it is not too late. Materials for the postcards and summer math packets can be found at the this link-http://mrsmooresmathpage.weebly.com/summer-resources.html.
We will be hosting another Family Numeracy Night in early fall, so keep a look-out for more information to follow regarding this event.
I look forward to continuing to support you and your children in the area of mathematics. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions.
