Family Numeracy Night was once again a huge success among the JMS Community last night. About thirty families and seventeen RSD6 staff members attended including Superintendent Drapp. Students enjoyed making literacy connections to mathematics with Mrs. Connery as well as participating in some enrichment experiences with Mrs. Wright and Mrs. Sweet while parents had the opportunity to attend information sessions. JMS offered a variety of mathematical topics for parents to choose from. Last night's slideshows from the following sessions are available by clicking on them:
Defining Rigor in Mathematics
Fluency: It's More Than Just Speed
How to Support Your Child on the Home Front
The night concluded with families playing math games together. I want to thank those families and staff members that took time out of their schedules to participate in JMS' Family Numeracy Night. It was a fun and engaging evening that left many parents expressing that they now have a better understanding of the mathematics that their children are experiencing. For those families that participated in Family Numeracy Night, please feel free to email at [email protected] with any feedback or suggestions on your experiences with the event, so that we can make improvements for future events.
